What is a Statement of Applicability in ISO 42001?

It is the list of all 38 Annex A controls showing whether each one is included, why, and how it is implemented. Clause 6.1.3 requires it as part of AI risk treatment. Auditors read it closely, so every inclusion or exclusion needs a justification that points to real risks, requirements or activities.

How is the conformity percentage calculated?

Each clause line gets a status such as Conforms, Partial or Gap, and the workbook converts those into a percentage for each clause, shown on the dashboard chart. The Instructions sheet explains the exact method. It measures your own preparation, not an auditor's view, so mark lines honestly and back them with evidence.

Can I edit the Action Plan directly?

It is better not to. The Action Plan is a live view that pulls every Partial or Gap line from the Clause Gap Assessment, with its finding, action, owner and date. Edit the source sheet and the plan updates itself, so your gap assessment and action list never drift apart.

Should I do the Statement of Applicability first?

Usually not. Controls should follow risks. Run the clause gap assessment and build your AI inventory and risk register first, then complete the Statement of Applicability so each control decision traces to a risk or requirement. The ISO 42001 Starter Bundle includes all three workbooks for this reason.
