ISO 9001:2026 Gap Analysis Template (Excel)
Short answer: an ISO 9001:2026 gap analysis template is a spreadsheet that lists every requirement area of the standard, lets you score your current system against each one, and turns the gaps into an action plan. Ours is an editable Excel workbook with 178 assessment lines, the 40 lines affected by the 2026 revision flagged, a dashboard that scores itself, and a linked action plan. It costs $49 and downloads instantly.

What should an ISO 9001:2026 gap analysis template contain?
A template is only useful if it saves you from reading the standard line by line and building the structure yourself. Look for these parts:
- One line per requirement area, clauses 4 to 10, written in plain words, with no copied standard text, so you can share it inside the company.
- A flag on every line the 2026 edition changed, so a company already certified to ISO 9001:2015 can filter to the changes and finish in a day or two.
- A status scale with a dropdown, for example conforms, partly conforms, does not conform, not applicable.
- Evidence and owner columns, because your certification body will ask what you looked at, not only what you concluded.
- An action plan with owner, due date and status, linked to the lines that did not conform.
- A dashboard that shows percent conformity by clause for management review.
What is in the ISO Cloud Consulting workbook?
| Sheet | What it does |
|---|---|
| Instructions | How to run the assessment, scoring rules, and how to use the filters for a transition-only review. |
| Gap Analysis | 178 assessment lines across clauses 4 to 10. 40 lines flagged as new, changed or clarified in ISO 9001:2026. Status dropdowns, evidence, owner and notes columns. |
| Dashboard | Conformity by clause and overall, calculated automatically. Ready to paste into a management review. |
| Action Plan | Actions with owner, due date, priority and status. |
| Evidence Log | A running list of the documents and records you reviewed. |
The file is a standard .xlsx with no macros. It opens in Excel 2016 or later, Microsoft 365, and imports into Google Sheets.
How long does an ISO 9001:2026 gap analysis take?
For a company that already holds ISO 9001:2015, filter the workbook to the 40 flagged lines. One person who knows the system can complete that in one to two working days, including collecting evidence. A full 178-line assessment, useful before a first certification, usually takes three to five days spread over a few weeks.
When should we run the gap analysis?
ISO 9001:2026 was published in September 2026 and certificates to the 2015 edition stop being valid at the end of the three-year transition period, in September 2029. Certification bodies will start offering transition audits well before that. Run the gap analysis first, because every other transition task, from updating the risk register to retraining auditors, depends on its result. Our ISO 9001:2026 transition guide sets out the sequence.
Free checklist or paid workbook?
The free transition checklist gives you the 20 steps of a transition on one page. It tells you what to do. The workbook is the tool you do step one with: it holds the scoring, evidence and actions that an auditor will want to see. If you want every transition tool in one download, the Transition Toolkit includes the workbook and ten more templates.
Important limits
The workbook summarizes requirements in our own words and does not reproduce ISO 9001. You need your own licensed copy of the standard to confirm exact wording. A template supports your transition. It cannot guarantee the outcome of an audit.
