It covers the whole AI management system in 25 statements: your AI inventory and roles, scope, AI policy, accountability, risk and impact assessment, the Statement of Applicability, objectives, training, tool approval, suppliers, data, testing, monitoring, transparency, internal audit, management review and corrective action. Each statement carries a clause or Annex A reference.

How is the checklist scored?

Each Yes scores 2 points, Partly scores 1 and No scores 0, for a maximum of 50. Your percentage places you in one of four bands, from Getting started to Ready to plan certification, and each band lists practical next steps. The Excel version calculates the score for you.

Will this tell me if I would pass an ISO 42001 audit?

No. It is a quick, honest self-assessment for planning, not an audit. A certification body looks at evidence that your processes actually run over time. Use the checklist to find the biggest gaps, then use a full gap assessment against every clause and control before you talk to certification bodies.

Do I need a copy of the ISO 42001 standard to use it?

Not to complete the checklist. The statements are written in our own plain English and do not reproduce the standard. The clause and control numbers let you look up the exact requirement in your own licensed copy when you start implementing, which you will need for the detailed work.
