Our Consultants: Industrial Engineers Who Build Quality Systems
Last reviewed 28 October 2026.
Short answer: ISO Cloud Consulting is two industrial engineers. Ishan Maharaj has designed, built and run certified ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 quality systems from the inside. Jacques Fauré has spent more than a decade designing the processes, systems and organisation structures of large retail, FMCG, healthcare and pharmaceutical operations in six countries. Together we engineer your processes first, build the management system around them, and then make sure it meets the standard.

Full profileWhat two industrial engineers change for you
Most ISO consultants start with the clause list and work backwards into your business. You end up with procedures nobody reads and a certificate that changes nothing about how work gets done. Industrial engineering starts at the other end: how work actually flows, where it waits, repeats or fails, and how many people and hours it really needs. We design that properly first. The standard is then satisfied by processes that already work.
| Question | Typical ISO consultant | ISO Cloud Consulting |
|---|---|---|
| Where does the work start? | The standard's clauses | Your process as it really runs, mapped and measured |
| What gets written? | Generic procedures adapted from a template | Procedures written for the improved process, with owners, controls and KPIs |
| Where does the system live? | A folder of Word files | A controlled system on the Microsoft 365, SharePoint or Google Workspace you already pay for |
| Is efficiency in scope? | Rarely | Always: waste, hand-offs, capacity and record-keeping effort are designed out |
| Who checks the work? | The person who wrote it | Two engineers; the principal reviews every deliverable, and whoever designed a process never audits it |
Proof in numbers
The two quality systems are documented with screenshots and video walk-throughs in our case studies: an ISO 13485 QMS on SharePoint, certified for six years, and an ISO 9001 logistics QMS transitioning to 2026. Client names are withheld for confidentiality.
Ishan Maharaj, Founder and Principal Consultant
Ishan is an industrial engineer who has spent his career in regulated medical device manufacturing, moving from engineering and planning roles into senior operations and quality leadership. He founded ISO Cloud Consulting to give smaller companies the kind of quality system he had to build himself: one that passes real audits and still makes the business faster. He wrote the ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 13485 template libraries and the courses on this site.
Medical device quality and regulatory
- Designed, implemented and ran an ISO 13485:2016 QMS that has held certification for six years and passed an accredited certification-body transfer audit in 2026.
- ISO 14971 risk management files, technical documentation and Medical Device Files for regulated markets.
- Design, qualification and validation of controlled manufacturing environments, including cleanrooms and their utilities; process validation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Supplier and technology evaluation, and the links between quality records and ERP, logistics and warehouse systems.
ISO 9001 and management systems
- Built an ISO 9001 QMS for a freight and warehousing company in five months, now leading its ISO 9001:2026 transition.
- Process approach, risk-based thinking, internal audit, CAPA and management review applied daily in certified systems.
- Author of the ISO 9001:2026 template library, checked clause by clause against the published standard.
Systems engineering and digital QMS
- SharePoint and Microsoft 365 quality systems: library segregation, read-only publishing, role-based permissions, approval workflows and forms-to-register automation.
- Capital and expansion projects, from facility design through validation planning.
Qualifications
- MSc Engineering Management. Research: a strategic framework for start-up medical device manufacturers.
- BSc Engineering (Industrial) Honours.
Jacques Fauré, Associate Consultant
Jacques is an industrial engineer with more than a decade of experience in process simplification, operational architecture and applied industrial engineering: analysing and designing the processes, systems and organisation structures through which large, complex organisations actually function. He spent seven years at FORTNA, a global operations-design consultancy, rising to Senior Operations Design Consultant, and has run his own industrial engineering practice since 2022. His work spans North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
What he brings to your quality system
- Process design: desktop, quantitative and qualitative analysis of how a process runs today, and a future-state design that removes waiting, rework and duplicated hand-offs.
- Operations assessment: capacity and workload modelling, throughput analysis, roles and organisation design.
- Project management: planning, executing and controlling implementation projects with executive teams.
- Data modelling: Excel and PowerPivot models that turn transaction data into decisions.
Selected work, before ISO Cloud Consulting
- A leading role in the four-distribution-centre consolidation and operations design for a US automotive retailer: about 100,000 SKUs with wide-ranging product characteristics, and a slotting design that lifted blended picker productivity by 16%.
- A network strategy for a US convenience-store chain of more than 800 stores, planning distribution capacity for a doubling of the store base over 10 to 15 years.
- Facility design for a Middle East FMCG retailer with more than 2,000 stores, including ambient, chilled and frozen areas and segregated Halal and non-Halal handling.
- A solution design to distribute about 5 million units a week to more than 2,500 stores.
- Project management of a distribution-centre relocation for a clothing retailer of about 100 stores, working directly with the executive committee: building alterations for code compliance and new equipment to raise productivity.
- Capacity modelling for a multinational financial-services organisation to test whether two departments from separate business units could merge into one.
- An inventory deployment model for a pharmaceutical retail network that released working capital while protecting on-shelf availability.
- Distribution-centre analysis for a fashion retailer that showed the operational impact of a merchandising change worth a 2 to 5% margin increase.
Recognition and teaching
- Honorary Fellow of the Southern African Institute for Industrial Engineering (SAIIE), conferred 2023.
- SAIIE President 2021 to 2023 and Council Member 2013 to 2025; SAIIE President's Award 2016 and 2018; chair of three national industrial engineering conferences.
- External lecturer, examiner and moderator in facilities design for a university industrial engineering department, 2018 to 2023.
Qualifications
- BEng (Industrial), 2015.

Frequently asked questions
Who will actually do the work on our engagement?
Two people. Ishan Maharaj, the founder and principal consultant, leads the standard and reviews every deliverable before it reaches you. Jacques Fauré, the associate consultant, leads process design and carries most of the delivery hours. You know both names before the proposal is signed.
Why does industrial engineering matter for ISO certification?
ISO standards ask for controlled, effective processes. Industrial engineering is the discipline of designing processes: how work flows, where it waits or repeats, and how much capacity it needs. Designing the process properly first means the procedures describe work that already runs well, so the system is used after the audit instead of ignored.
Can you improve our operations without a certification project?
Yes. Process optimisation, capacity analysis and operations design are available on their own. They are scoped and priced in the same way as compliance work.
Do you work on site?
Work is remote by default, by video and shared documents. On-site support is available by arrangement for larger engagements, usually as a short concentrated visit between remote preparation and follow-up.
Who audits the processes you design?
Never the consultant who designed them. To protect audit impartiality, an internal audit of a process is carried out by a consultant who did not design or implement it for you.
