Salve markets and languages

This page explains how Salve works when you sell in more than one country, currency or language with Shopify Markets: where the selectors appear, how prices and the free shipping bar behave, how to translate your own text, and how regulatory statuses are shown for different regions.

Set up your markets, currencies and languages in your Shopify admin under Settings > Markets and Settings > Languages. The theme shows what you set there.

Country and language selectors

Selectors appear only when your store has more than one country or region, or more than one language. You can show them in three places:

Where Setting Notes
Announcement bar Show country and language selectors in the Announcement bar section Shown on every screen size.
Mobile menu Show country/region selector and Show language selector in the Header section Shown in the menu that opens on small screens.
Footer Show country/region selector and Show language selector in the Footer section Shown in the bottom row of the footer.

The selectors change the country or language only when the shopper presses Update. Choosing a country also changes the currency when that market uses its own currency.

Prices and currencies

  • Prices, unit prices, volume pricing and cart totals show in the shopper's currency, as Shopify converts or sets them for their market.
  • Turn on Show currency codes in theme settings under Currency format to add the code to prices, for example $1.00 USD. This helps when several of your currencies use the same symbol, such as US, Canadian and Australian dollars.
  • The Free shipping threshold in theme settings under Cart is in your store currency. Shoppers who shop in another currency don't see the free shipping bar, because the amount can't be converted reliably. Your shipping rates themselves are set in Settings > Shipping and delivery.
  • The Search engines settings publish your return and shipping policies to Google in your store currency. They don't change what shoppers see.

Languages

Theme text

Salve includes storefront text in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Button labels, headings the theme adds, regulatory status wording and form messages are translated automatically when you publish a language. To change any of this text, go to Online Store > Themes, select ... and then Edit default theme content. The theme also supports right-to-left languages.

Regulatory status chips and statements are part of this text. If you adjust a translation, keep the meaning exact. See the Regulatory status reference.

Your own text

Text you type in theme settings, sections and blocks is not part of the theme's language files, so it doesn't change with the shopper's language. Translate it with Shopify's free Translate & Adapt app. In Salve, this includes these theme settings:

  • Dietary supplement statement (Health data)
  • Badge label and Disclosure text (HSA and FSA)
  • Form privacy notice, Medical disclaimer and Emergency line (Safety and privacy)

It also includes the headings and text you enter in sections and blocks, such as announcements, the Disclaimer block text and the Legal information section. Use translations of safety and legal wording that your advisers have approved.

Product content, including the health metafields that hold text, is translated in the same app.

Documents in several languages

Each Health document has a Language field. Turn on Show shopper's language first in the Documents block to list documents in the shopper's language before the others. See Documents and safety notices.

Subscription plan names

The supply planner reads the number and interval word in selling plan names in all five languages. If your subscription app lets you translate plan names, keep the number and interval word in each translation. See Supply planner and subscriptions.

Regulatory status by region

Show regulatory statuses for, in theme settings under Health data, limits the statuses the theme shows to one region: All regions, United States, European Union and United Kingdom, Australia or Canada. The setting applies to the whole store, not to each market.

  • If you sell in one region, choose it. Statuses for other regions are hidden on product pages, product cards and product comparison.
  • If you sell in several regions, keep All regions and enter only statuses that are true for the product. Each statement names its region, for example "FDA 510(k) cleared" or "CE marked under Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR)".
  • The dietary supplement statement is a US requirement. It shows only when this setting is All regions or United States.

Food supplements in the EU and the UK

Salve has no separate status or statement for food supplements sold in the EU or the UK. Those markets have their own mandatory label statements. To show them:

  1. In Settings > Custom data > Products, add a rich text metafield for the label statements, for example custom.label_statements.
  2. Enter the wording for each product, as it appears on the product's label.
  3. In the theme editor, open the product template, select the Disclaimer block and connect its Text setting to that metafield with the dynamic source icon. Add the Disclaimer block first if the template doesn't have one.
  4. Translate the metafield with Translate & Adapt for each language you sell in.

Products with a value show their own wording. Products without a value show nothing in that block, or the dietary supplement statement when they have the US dietary supplement status and the region setting allows it.

HSA and FSA

HSA and FSA accounts exist only in the United States, and the HSA/FSA display is store-wide. If most of your shoppers are outside the United States, turn off Show HSA/FSA eligibility in theme settings. See HSA and FSA display.
