Salve app compatibility
Salve works with Shopify's own features and with the kinds of apps health stores use most. This page explains where apps plug in, what the theme shows on its own, and what to check after you install an app.
Before you install an app that changes theme code, duplicate your theme. Most modern apps use app blocks and app embeds, which don't edit theme code at all.
Where apps appear
- App blocks: you can add app blocks to the product information area of the product page, to the Featured product section, to groups and to the Apps section. In the theme editor, click Add block and choose the app's block.
- App embeds: chat widgets, analytics and similar tools are turned on in the theme editor under App embeds.
- Custom Liquid: if an app gives you a code snippet instead of a block, paste it into a Custom Liquid block where you want it to appear.
Product reviews
Most review apps save each product's average rating and number of reviews in Shopify's standard product rating fields. Salve reads those fields, so ratings appear in three places without extra setup:
- Product rating block on the product page: stars, the exact rating and the number of reviews. It sits under the product title in the default templates and stays hidden until the product has at least one review. In the theme editor it shows a short note instead, so you know it's there.
- Product cards in collections, search and product lists, when Show product rating is on in theme settings under Product cards.
- Search results on Google: the rating is added to the product's structured data.
Stars are shown to the nearest half star. The written rating (for example "4.6 out of 5, 27 reviews") is what screen readers announce.
To link the rating to the reviews further down the page, enter the ID your review app gives its reviews widget in the block's Reviews section ID setting. The block then shows a "Read reviews" link. Add the review app's own reviews block where you want the full reviews to appear.
If your ratings don't appear, check in your review app's settings that it syncs ratings to Shopify product metafields. Some apps call this "SEO rich snippets" or "Shopify metafields sync".
Subscriptions and repeat delivery
Salve supports Shopify selling plans, which subscription apps use. When a product has a selling plan:
- The Purchase options block on the product page lets shoppers choose one-time purchase or a delivery plan, with the saving shown.
- The price updates to the plan price, and the plan name is shown in the cart.
- Product cards can show a "Subscription available" badge.
The Supply planner block works with or without a subscription app. It helps shoppers see how long a pack lasts and how often to reorder.
Bundles and add-ons
Salve works with Shopify Bundles and with apps that group products into one cart line.
- A bundle appears as one line in the cart with an "Includes" list of the products and quantities inside it.
- When an app locks a line, for example a free gift or an add-on that must stay with its product, the cart shows the quantity as text and hides the quantity controls and the Remove button for that line.
Wholesale (B2B)
If you sell to businesses with Shopify B2B:
- Quantity rules (minimum, maximum and increment) are applied to quantity inputs and explained next to them on the product page, in quick add, in the quick order list and in the cart.
- Volume pricing is listed on the product page in the Quantity block ("Buy more, save more") when Show volume pricing is on. The price break that applies to the quantity entered is highlighted.
- The Quick order list section lists each variant with its price breaks. Line totals and the order total use the price break for the quantity entered, which is the price the cart will apply.
Business customers see their catalog prices when they're signed in to their company account. Retail shoppers see your normal prices, and the price break lists stay hidden.
Other features
- Accelerated checkout buttons (Shop Pay, Apple Pay and others) appear on the product page and in the cart when they're turned on in your payment settings.
- Shop Pay Installments messages appear under the price when installments are available.
- Pickup in store availability shows on the product page for locations that offer local pickup.
- Markets: the country and language selectors appear in the header, the menu and the footer.
- Gift cards have their own page with the code, balance, a QR code and an Apple Wallet link.
What to check after installing an app
- Preview the pages the app changes on a phone and on a computer.
- Check that the app's text is readable in each color scheme you use.
- Use the keyboard to reach and use the app's buttons and forms.
- Check your store speed. Each app adds scripts, and some load on every page.
If an app doesn't display correctly with Salve, contact the app developer first. They know how their app works. You can also contact us through the theme support form.
