Salve FAQ and troubleshooting
Frequently asked questions
Does Salve make my store compliant?
No. Salve helps you present product information clearly. It does not make your store, products or content compliant with any law or regulation. You are responsible for your product claims, labeling and regulatory obligations. Take professional advice.
Do I need apps to use Salve?
No. Every Salve feature works without an app. Two features work better with free or optional apps: collection filters and the product selector use Shopify's Search & Discovery app, and subscription options need a subscription app that creates selling plans.
Do I need to fill in every health field?
No. Create only the fields you'll use. Each health block shows nothing when its data is missing, so products without health data still look clean.
My metafields use a different namespace. Do I have to recreate them?
No. If all your fields share one namespace and use Salve's keys, change Metafield namespace in theme settings. Otherwise, connect block settings to your metafields with dynamic sources. See the Health data setup guide.
Can I use a different product layout for devices and supplements?
Yes. Assign the product.device or product.supplement template to a product in the admin, under Theme template. You can also create your own templates in the theme editor.
Can I hide the safety information band?
If a product has contraindications, warnings, precautions or possible side effects, Salve always shows them. If you remove the Safety information block, the band still appears after the buy buttons or after the price, depending on Safety information position. To show no safety band, leave those fields empty for that product.
Does Salve collect health information from shoppers?
No. The contact form has no file upload or health fields, and a privacy notice asks shoppers not to send personal health details. Shopify doesn't support storing HIPAA-protected health information, so don't add health fields with apps or custom code.
Does Salve work with my subscription app?
Salve works with any app that creates Shopify selling plans. The app handles billing and delivery. See Supply planner and subscriptions.
Does Salve support other languages?
Yes. Salve includes English, French, German, Spanish and Italian storefront text. You can edit any text in Online Store > Themes > Edit default theme content. The theme also supports right-to-left languages.
Can I show product reviews?
Salve shows star ratings on product cards when a reviews app fills Shopify's standard product rating metafield. Install a reviews app to collect reviews, and add its app block to the product page.
Troubleshooting
A health block doesn't appear on the product page
- Open the product in the theme editor and check the Health data setup panel. If the field shows Empty, the theme can't find the data.
- Check the namespace and key of your definition, for example
health.warnings. They must match exactly. - Check that the block is on the product's template. Products can use different templates.
- For documents and reviewers, check that the metaobject definition allows storefront access and that entries are active.
The regulatory status doesn't show
- Check that the value is exactly one of the values in the Regulatory status reference.
- Check Show regulatory statuses for in theme settings. A region filter hides statuses for other regions.
-
general_wellnessandcosmetichave no chip.cosmeticprints nothing at all.
The HSA/FSA badge doesn't show
- Check that Show HSA/FSA eligibility is on.
- Check that the product's tag matches the Eligibility tag setting exactly, apart from capital letters.
- On product cards, check Show HSA/FSA eligible chip. Cards show up to three badges, and a safety notice, sold out or sale badge comes first.
The supply planner doesn't show, or shows no delivery hint
- The planner needs a value in
health.units_per_pack. - The hint needs selling plans, the Purchase options block on the same template, and plan names with a number and interval word, such as "Every 4 weeks".
The product selector shows all products
The filter isn't enabled in Search & Discovery, or the answer's parameter doesn't match. See Product selector and filters.
The compare checkbox doesn't appear
Turn on Enable product comparison in theme settings under Product cards.
The safety notice bar doesn't show
Turn on Show notice and add Text. If the severity is Information and you closed the bar earlier, it stays closed in your browser until the text changes. It always shows in the theme editor.
The free shipping bar is hidden in another currency
The threshold is set in your store currency. When a customer shops in a different currency, the bar is hidden so it never shows a wrong amount.
Known issues
- Document library order. Products are sorted alphabetically within each page of results, not across pages. Choose a collection sorted from A to Z, or raise Products per page.
- Drug Facts PDFs. The What's inside block only shows label images. Add a Drug Facts PDF as a Health document instead.
- Disclaimer block and the automatic supplement statement. The Disclaimer block is a deliberate placement: with its Text empty, it shows the dietary supplement statement on supplements even when Show the dietary supplement statement automatically is off. Remove the block if you don't want it.
